Working With Yantras

WORKING WITH YANTRAS

If you are wondering "What is a Yantra?" Check out the Yantra Introduction Page HERE

After Your Yantra Consultation With Sarah you will be given a digital colored image of your Yantra to work with. You may also receive an outline-to-color and a suggestion to make the Yantra from scratch. If you would like to purchase a Yantra Print of one of Sarah’s own Yantras please order this directly from sarahyantra.com/yantraprints

Spend a little time each day with your colored Yantra. You can place it on your altar, by your bedside or in a part of your home where you will see it regularly. Develop a relationship with your Yantra by spending some time with it for 40 days. You can choose from the practices below:

Yantra Meditation - Seated Sit in a comfortable position with your Yantra placed in front of you. Settle yourself with some slow deep breaths and feel the wave of calm come over you. Gazing at the center of the Yantra, at the central point known as the bindu, allow the forms and colors to send their healing rays to you.

Adding Your Mantra You can take the Mantra that Sarah has given you to work with and silently recite it as you gaze at the bindu. Repeat the sound one or two times, or up to 108 times before closing your eyes and sitting for a moment of stillness to integrate the experience of meditation with the Yantra and Mantra.

Continuing This Practice During Your Day The Yantra can be looked at in your living space, or as a screen saver or wallet sized portable, periodically during the day. Your Mantra will start to come to you throughout the day and bring some space and breath, calm and connection to the healing force of the Yantra with it.

After 40 Days Check-In With Sarah and let her know how the process has been, the insights you have gained about your journey and the focus and direction it has brought to you. Sometimes you will repeat this practice for another 40 days. You can also take a break between Yantra practices or you may feel ready to start working with a new Yantra.

Coloring Your Yantra To become better acquainted with your chosen Yantra you can color your Yantra. Using Sarah’s book “Coloring Yantras” by Shambhala Publishing, you can make copies of the Yantra or Yantra Mandala (which is a more ornate form of the Yantra) images. Spend a little time each day actively coloring this Yantra. Begin at the top and color in a clockwise fashion, spiraling around and around until you arrive at the center, the bindu.

The Coloring Is A Meditation. You can bring your Mantra with you as you color. This form of meditation is especially suited to you if you get centered during activity. Coloring Yantras is calming and transporting. It brings you into the beauty of the present moment and has a wonderful effect on your nervous system, your outlook and your mood. You may find that engaging in the lines and colors of the Yantra in this way brings you a greater connection to the Yantra’s healing rays. Once the Yantra coloring is complete you can use the image for seated Meditation or gift it to those who could benefit from the uplift of its presence in their space. You can also offer it to a fire once the 40 days are finished.

Creating Your Yantra From Scratch is a beautiful practice. You will draw the construction lines for your Yantra. Then you will draw the main shapes: the outline, the circles, petals and triangles or star, and then color it with the medium of your choice. You can use one of the methods below to create your Yantra. You can also come on a Yantra Painting Retreat for an immersion into this practice. Keep an eye on the events page for upcoming retreats and classes.

The Planetary Yantra construction steps can be found in Sarah’s book Nine Designs For Inner Peace by Inner Traditions Publishing.

Sarah has some instructions for the Goddess Yantras, if you would like to work with them you can download the E-Books HERE.

You can also find some of the Yantras taught in a step-by-step method on Sarah’s Youtube Channel: youtube.com/c/sarahtomlinson
